I know I’ll keep writing and I’ll dive back into teaching, but I was inspired during a morning meditation—yes I do that now—to funnel my creativity in a different way that might be really valuable to myself and others (and won’t be a major time suck). For each day of February, I’m going to feature a Black individual on my blog who falls into one of the following categories: 1) someone who rarely or never receives any attention during Black History Month, 2) someone whom I’d like to learn more about, or 3) someone I’ve only just heard of! There will be some overlapping between categories, I’m sure. And guess what? It’s leap year! That means twenty-NINE days of Black History, folks!!
I’ve never tried anything like this before so I hope I’m up to the task. Keep in mind that these entries will be very casual—I’m not a historian or a biographer—so please feel free to add other facts that I’ve left out or to add your own discussion questions/topics in the comments section. I want this to be an interactive project so I hope readers will be inspired to contribute.
And please feel free to share information on other Black individuals from recent and not-so-recent history that you think we should be discussing because I want to know about them! Seriously. My hunger for knowledge is practically pathological.
Happy Black History Month, everyone!
P.S. You can also read any of the entries to come during times of the year that aren’t February. ;)
